Life imitates art as ceiling collapses during 'Final Destination' movie screening

A screening of the latest ‘Final Destination’ movie took a scary turn, mimicking a scene straight out of the franchise, when the theater’s roof collapsed on viewers in Argentina.

The incident occurred on May 19, when the ceiling collapsed during a showing of “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” at Cinema Ocho in La Plata in Buenos Aires, according to Infobae, an Argentina-based digital news outlet.

“The truth is, we hadn’t planned to go to the movies,” Fiamma Villaverde told the outlet in a translated interview. “It was my birthday. We were walking and happened upon the theater. Since the tickets were cheaper than the rest of the week, we said, ‘Shall we?’ We went in, bought some popcorn, and went into the theater. The show had just started.”

The movie franchise, now in its sixth installment, follows a group of people who narrowly escape death after surviving a mass casualty event, but are then chased down by death and face bizarre, horrific fates.

Villaverde, along with her 11-year-old daughter and a friend, said near the end of the movie, they heard a loud crash.

“There was a really loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so absorbed, but then a huge piece fell on me,” Villaverde shared.

Villaverde added that a portion of the ceiling fell on her, striking her shoulder, back, knee and ankle.

Luckily, she was able to avoid more serious injuries, telling the outlet the debris missed her head because she was leaning on the armrest.

“I asked for my ticket money back,” Villaverde said. “While I was waiting, the theater manager came to talk to me. He asked, ‘How do you want to fix this?’ I got angry: ‘How do I want to fix this? I’m going to file a complaint. Just imagine if they hit my daughter in the head! They’re irresponsible!'”

Videos and images circulating on social media show a hole in the ceiling of the theater and pieces of debris spread all over the floor.

“When life imitates art,” one user wrote on X, attached with an image of the roof collapse.

“Several injured. No casualties. Of all the films this could’ve happened during,” another user wrote.

According to several movie attendees, the recent heavy rain is alleged to have been a factor leading to the roof collapse.

The theater has not yet issued an official statement.

President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he will pardon a former Virginia sheriff convicted of taking more than $75,000 in bribes in exchange for appointing businessmen as auxiliary deputy sheriffs within his department.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said Scott Howard Jenkins, 53, of Culpeper, Virginia, was supposed to report to jail Tuesday but “instead will have a wonderful and productive life.”

Jenkins, the former sheriff of Culpeper County, was convicted last year of one count of conspiracy, four counts of honest services fraud, and seven counts of bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds. He was sentenced in March to 10 years in prison.

JD VANCE SPELLS OUT WHAT TRUMP’S PROCESS TO ‘RECTIFY’ ‘UNFAIR’ JAN 6 PROSECUTIONS COULD LOOK LIKE

In his post, Trump said the former sheriff and his wife have been “dragged through HELL by a Corrupt and Weaponized Biden” Justice Department.

“In fact, during his trial, when Sheriff Jenkins tried to offer exculpatory evidence to support himself, the Biden Judge, Robert Ballou, refused to allow it, shut him down, and then went on a tirade,” Trump wrote. “As we have seen, in Federal, City, and State Courts, Radical Left or Liberal Judges allow into evidence what they feel like, not what is mandated under the Constitution and Rules of Evidence.”

“This Sheriff is a victim of an overzealous Biden Department of Justice, and doesn’t deserve to spend a single day in jail,” he added. “He is a wonderful person, who was persecuted by the Radical Left ‘monsters,’ and ‘left for dead.’ This is why I, as President of the United States, see fit to end his unfair sentence, and grant Sheriff Jenkins a FULL and Unconditional Pardon.”

HOW MY JAN. 6 CLIENTS WERE ROBBED OF FAIRNESS IN DC BENCH TRIALS

Federal prosecutors alleged Jenkins accepted cash bribes and bribes in the form of campaign contributions from co-defendants Rick Rahim, Fredric Gumbinner and James Metcalf, as well as at least five others, including two FBI undercover agents.

In exchange, Jenkins appointed the people paying the bribes as auxiliary deputy sheriffs, a sworn law-enforcement position, and issued them official Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office badges and credentials, authorities said.

None of the payers were trained or vetted and did not render any legitimate services to the sheriff’s office, prosecutors said

In April, Jenkins said he hoped that Trump would intervene in his case.

“I truly believe if I could get an hour of time with someone in the administration and lay out some facts with my attorney and I really believe if they could hear the other side which I couldn’t get in front of the jury — I believe wholeheartedly in the president,” he said during a webinar hosted by the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. “I believe if he heard the information, I know he would help if he knew my story.”

Bindi Irwin is on the road to recovery and taking the time to heal after suffering a ruptured appendix earlier this month.

Irwin, the daughter of late animal advocate Steve Irwin, was forced to miss an annual gala in honor of her father due to emergency surgery.

While the surgery was initially intended to address her appendix, doctors discovered a myriad of issues Irwin, 26, needed medical attention for, including 14 additional lesions related to her endometriosis diagnosis.

“Healing. Thank you for your incredible words of support and kindness,” Bindi shared on social media. “The reason I share my health journey is because more girls and women desperately need answers to their undiagnosed pain.

Her husband, Chandler Powell, praised Bindi on social media, and wrote, “I’ve said it many times already, but as time goes on I’m even more convinced that you are the strongest person I know.”

He added, “Going through everything you have to get on top of your health as well as help others along the way is incredible. You are a warrior in every sense of the word. Grace and I are so grateful for you and everything you do.”

She responded, “My hope is to be healthy for our family. I love you so much.”

Irwin detailed some of her medical journey on social media shortly after she was hospitalized.

“After having a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas,” she wrote earlier this month. “I consulted with Dr. Seckin, and we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again.

“Surgery was a success. My appendix was removed, along with another 14 lesions (after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago). I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago. Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery.”

This is not the first health scare Bindi has encountered. In 2023, the mom of one revealed an endometriosis diagnosis that also required surgery.

“My life now looks completely different than it did before I had my surgery,” Irwin told Fox News Digital at the time. “Over the 10 years that I was really battling with endo[metriosis] without knowing it, I would get progressively worse every week and in the end, before my surgery, I was barely able to get out of bed.”

John Haliburton is expected to have a bird’s eye view of his son Tyrese Haliburton and the rest of the Indiana Pacers for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The elder Haliburton will return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday and watch from a luxury suite as the Pacers take on the New York Knicks in the next game of the high-stakes series, multiple outlets reported on Monday.

John Haliburton’s pending return comes after he was barred from attending Pacers’ home or road games following his on-court confrontation with two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo in late April.

The Pacers have played in eight playoff games since the incident, and John Haliburton has not attended any of those matchups. The Pacers front office reportedly decided to place a ban on the two-time NBA All-Star’s father.

PACERS NOW 0-4 IN NBA CONFERENCE FINALS GAMES PLAYED ON INDY 500 DAY

ESPN reported, citing sources, that John Haliburton understood and accepted the decision at the time. He is not expected to attend Game 5 when the series shifts back to New York City.

Instead of attending the past few games, John Haliburton has been seen in a local Indianapolis bar celebrating his son’s feats, such as making a buzzer-beating shot to force overtime in Game 1 against the Knicks. The Pacers went on to win that game at Madison Square Garden.

Tyrese Haliburton was not made available to reporters on Monday, when the Pacers confirmed their decision to lift the ban on his father.

“I think a father-son relationship is special,” teammate Myles Turner said. “I grew up in a house where my father was a big part of my life, and this is a very special moment — conference finals, and you potentially move on. So I’m glad that a father can see his son play.”

The Knicks’ rallied in the fourth quarter on Sunday night in Game 3 to cut the series deficit. The Knicks’ 106-100 victory guaranteed a Game 5, which will be in New York. Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Police arrested the driver of a minivan on Monday after authorities say he plowed into a crowd of Liverpool, United Kingdom, soccer fans, injuring dozens who were celebrating the city’s soccer team’s Premier League Championship.

Police identified the driver as a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area. Police also said they believe this was an isolated incident, adding that they do not believe anyone else was involved. The incident is not being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Dave Kitchin of North West Air Ambulance said during a press conference on Monday that 27 people were taken to the hospital, with two suffering serious injuries, and another 20 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. At least four children were injured. One of those children sustained serious injuries.

Firefighters who responded to the scene had to lift the van to free three adults and one child, who were trapped beneath it. A cyclist paramedic on the scene was also struck by the van, though authorities said he did not sustain injuries.

Merseyside Police said in a post on X that it was investigating reports of a collision in Liverpool city center, after being contacted after 6 p.m. on Monday that a car had collided with multiple pedestrians on Water Street.

Police added that the vehicle stopped at the scene and a man was detained.

“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre,” police said in another post. “We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area. Extensive [inquiries] are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.”

Police asked the public to not share “distressing content” online, but instead to send the footage or information to the Merseyside Police or to Crimestoppers.

Video posted to social media prior to the police department’s request to not share information online, showed a gray minivan striking at least one pedestrian before veering into a larger crowd of people, carving a path through the group and pushing bodies along the street like a plow before coming to a stop.

The Associated Press spoke with Harry Rashid, who was at the Liverpool parade with his wife and two young daughters.

Rashid said the car began ramming people about 10 feet away from him.

“It was extremely fast,” he said. “Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a post on X that he was being kept up to date on developments regarding the situation and asked that police be given the space needed to conduct their investigation.

“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling – my thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” he wrote. “I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.”

The incident came after a large celebration in the city center, where tens of thousands of dancing, scarf-and-flag-waving fans braved wet weather to line the streets and watch Liverpool’s players display the Premier League trophy from on top of two buses bearing the words, “Ours Again.”

Rashid told the AP that after the van struck its initial victims, it stopped and the crowd charged the vehicle, smashing its windows.

“But then he put his foot down again and just plowed through the rest of them, he just kept going,” Rashid said, alleging the incident appeared deliberate. “It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people.”

“My daughter started screaming and there were people on the ground,” he added. “They were just innocent people, just fans going to enjoy the parade.”

A truck that unexpectedly exploded in a suburban Chicago neighborhood over the holiday weekend damaged several homes and injured the driver, authorities said.

Investigators in Addison, 20 miles west of Chicago, said the incident has been ruled an accident due to a leaking propane tank inside the box truck rental.

The Addison Fire Protection District and Addison Police Department responded to the scene of the explosion on Saturday.

Crews discovered a “large debris field “with “no indication of any fire” at that point.

Ring camera footage taken from a home shows the truck traveling on a road in a residential area when it explodes all of a sudden.

“The explosion damaged a few homes in the area, but nobody was injured other than the driver who sustained minor injuries,” the Addison Police Department said in a Facebook update.

The truck was Penske box truck, which the company told Fox News Digital had been rented out to a customer moving household belongings.

“Penske will cooperate fully with any further investigation by law enforcement,” the company said in a statement. “Under Penske’s rental agreement, explosive, flammable or otherwise hazardous materials should not be transported in a consumer rental moving truck.”

First responders searched the truck and found the driver, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) officials are debating whether their grading policy is too lenient, with one principal arguing that leniency in grading won’t translate into success in the real world for students, according to a report.

“When students graduate and are working in jobs, what they experience around grace and flexibility at school is not going to match,” Ellen Kennedy said in a report from the Chicago Sun-Times. “This bubble is not going to surround you wherever you go.”

Kennedy is principal at Richards Career Academy High School (RCAHS).

300K NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS DIDN’T SHOW UP TO SCHOOL LAST YEAR, ACCORDING TO REPORT

RCAHS is predominantly enrolled by Latino and Black students. The school piloted a new grading policy before the COVID pandemic that allowed them to redo assignments repeatedly and then submit assignments late. The policy was intended to address rising absenteeism in the district.

“Even if they didn’t complete the assignment, the lowest score they could get was 50 rather than zero — a concept known as no-zero grading,” the Times reported.

The trend of “no-zero grading” started across the district and the United States as “part of a push to give students more chances to show what they learned.” Proponents of the policy argue that the traditional grading policy makes it difficult for students to recover, put in effort, and attend class.

Jessica Bunzol, a transformation coach at the University of Chicago Network for College Success, who has done work at RCAHS, said issuing “Fs” are “not motivators for young people.”

“That belief that our classroom should be oriented toward helping young people to succeed, rather than orienting them towards failure, is really a critical part,” Bunzol said. “Research tells us that F’s are not motivators for young people and that they’re not going to engage them in classrooms in the way we might previously have thought or hoped.”

US ‘REPORT CARD’ SHOWS STUDENTS HAVE FALLEN BEHIND IN READING, BARELY BUDGED IN MATH: ‘THE NEWS IS NOT GOOD’

A CPS official charged with managing attendance and truancy said the “shift was key in becoming a district that’s attuned to the social-emotional needs of its students.”

“We’re not issuing grades without knowing the full story,” Zakieh Mohammed said. “If the student has not shown up, are we just issuing a zero, or are we asking why?”

“We wanted to show up for our kids first and then grading was secondary,” Candace Brahm, a science teacher at RCAHS, said.

On the other hand, critics at RCAHS and another high school in CPSF “worry it allows some students to eke out passing grades with little effort and undermines the importance of turning in work on time and coming to school regularly.”

One student was baffled by the notion that her classmates were passing the class with high absenteeism and missing assignments while she was doing the work.

BETSY DEVOS: EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HAS FAILED. TIME TO LET PARENTS AND STATES TAKE THE LEAD

“I was a witness to kids just coming in, like, twice a week and doing two assignments and then passing the class,” Kayla Saffold said. “It was just crazy to me.”

“It felt like I had to put in the effort to get the A, and someone else ends up barely putting in any effort at all, and ended up passing the class. It felt unfair to me,” she added.

According to the Chicago-Sun Times report, educators and experts posit that the policy is leading to chronic absenteeism and increasing graduation rates.

“Last year, a quarter of all high schoolers missed more than a month of school, a Chalkbeat and WBEZ analysis found. But the graduation rate has kept going up,” the Times reported.

CPS officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

However, the school district released a statement to the Chicago-Sun Times.

“CPS is committed to balancing student wellbeing with academic integrity,” the statement reads. “We recognize the complexity of grading and remain focused on equity — holding all students to high expectations while ensuring they have multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery of content.”

It was the most-watched Indianapolis 500 in 17 years, according to FOX Sports. The last Indy 500 to draw comparable viewership was the 2008 race, which garnered an audience of 7.245 million. FOX Sports said viewership was up 40% from last year’s race.

It was the first year FOX broadcast the Indianapolis 500.

INDY 500 POLE-SITTER CRASHES INTO CREW MEMBERS ON PIT ROAD: ‘REALLY SCARY’

Palou passed Marcus Ericsson with 14 laps to go in the race and held him and the rest of the pack at bay to win the race. It was the fifth win of the 2025 season for Palou and the first time a Spaniard had won the Indy 500.

Palou started the race in sixth position on the second row on the outside of Scott Dixon and next to Felix Rosenqvist. He needed to work hard to get to the front as persistent droplets of rain and several caution flags came out, which could have halted his momentum at any time.

As the race came down to the end, he got his opportunity to move around Ericsson. He had some lap traffic in front of him, but they didn’t appear to hinder Palou’s ability to win at all. For Palou, it was jubilation down the frontstretch with the anticipation of kissing the bricks and some ice-cold milk to cool him off after the grueling event.

President Donald Trump honored fallen American heroes and praised God during a Memorial Day address at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Monday, vowing to “fix” the republic founded nearly 250 years ago.

“We gathered today to honor the incredible service members who rest in glory in this cemetery and burial grounds around the world, and in a thousand lonely places known only to God in every hour of peril and every moment of crisis,” Trump said.American warriors have left behind the blessings of home and family to answer their nation’s call. They’ve offered all that they had within them and given their last breaths to each and every one of us, that we might live safe and breathe free.

“This morning we pay tribute to their immortal deeds. We share in the sorrow of their beloved families, and as one nation, we give thanks for the ultimate gift they have so selflessly given to all of us, these warriors. And that’s what they are as great, great warriors picked up their mantle of duty and service, knowing that to live for others meant always that they might die for others.”

TRUMP FIRES OFF MEMORIAL DAY MESSAGE TARGETING ‘SCUM’ WHO SOUGHT TO ‘DESTROY’ THE US

The president said Memorial Day 2025 “is especially significant as we commemorate 250 years since the first American Patriots fell on the field of battle two and a half centuries ago.”

“At Lexington Green, Concord Bridge, Bunker Hill, brave minutemen and humble farm boys became the first to give their lives for a nation that did not yet have a name,” Trump said. “Those young men could never have known what their sacrifice would mean to us, but we certainly know what we owe to them. Their valor gave us the freest, greatest and most noble republic ever to exist on the face of the earth.”

He added: “A republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years. That was a hard four years we went through. Who would let that happen? People pouring through our borders unchecked. People doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss, but the republic, that is now doing so very well. We’re doing so very well right now, considering the circumstances, and we’ll do record-setting better with time.

“We will do better than we’ve ever done as a nation, better than ever before. I promise you that.”

Trump recognized the surviving family members in attendance of several fallen soldiers who he mentioned by name, including veterans who died in the line of duty in Vietnam, Iraq and Syria.

TRUMP ACCUSES HARVARD OF BEING ‘VERY SLOW’ TO TURN OVER FOREIGN STUDENT INFO

In remembering their stories, the president also promised a “big, big celebration” next year commemorating the 250th anniversary of the nation and thanked God that he would be in office to celebrate the significant milestone.

“These extraordinary American heroes and their immense and ultimate sacrifices. They offer only the faintest glimpse at the infinite grace we have received from all who laid down their lives for America over the past 250 years. We’re going to have a big, big celebration. As you know, 250 years,” Trump said.

“In some ways, I’m glad I missed that second term where it was because I wouldn’t be president for that,” he added, drawing some laughter. “Most important of all, in addition, we have the World Cup and we have the Olympics. Can you imagine? I missed that four years. And now look what I have. I have everything amazing. The way things work out.”

“God did that. I believe that too. He did that,” Trump said, crediting divine intervention after he lost re-election in 2020 and later was reelected in 2024.

“In any corner of this cemetery, at any resting place for our war dead, anywhere on Earth, you’ll find untold stories of equal heroism, heroism and heartbreak, unmatched patriotism and devotion, and acts of selflessness and courage so enormous they defy comprehension,” Trump said. “We salute them in their eternal and everlasting glory. And we continue our relentless pursuit of America’s destiny as we make our nation stronger, prouder, freer and greater than ever before.

“May God bless our fallen heroes. May God bless our Gold Star families, and may God bless the United States of America.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial received a brief break Monday as New York City courthouses honored Memorial Day.

Diddy, 55, will spend the holiday behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), where the fallen music mogul has been incarcerated since his September arrest.

While the “Last Night” rapper received a brief respite from testimony in his ongoing sex crimes trial, Diddy and his fellow inmates will be offered a number of activities for Memorial Day.

Diddy is being held in the 4 North corridor of the jail, a dormitory-style unit shared with 20 other federal inmates.

“Spades card games, dominoes, 3-on-3 basketball tournament and soccer tournament,” an executive assistant told People magazine.

Diddy and the inmates will be offered a “normal, rotating Monday meal,” which includes fruit, cereal, skim milk and a breakfast cake, the outlet reported.

He’ll have the choice of barbecue chicken, kidney beans, macaroni and cheese, mixed vegetables, whole wheat bread, fruit, a holiday dessert and a beverage for lunch.

Chicken, tofu, rice, pinto beans, canned corn, whole wheat bread and a drink is available for Diddy’s dinner.

In September, the “Last Night” singer was arrested and charged with racketeering conspiracy; sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and transportation to engage in prostitution, according to a federal indictment. He has maintained his innocence. If found guilty, he faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars or a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Testimony in the Bad Boy Records founder’s trial began Monday, May 12, and jurors heard from his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in addition to rapper Kid Cudi and former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard.

On Thursday, the jury heard from rapper Kid Cudi — who testified that he had a romantic relationship with Diddy’s ex, Cassie, in 2011. Kid Cudi testified that when Diddy found out about the relationship, he broke into the musician’s home and later allegedly set fire to his car. However, there was no definitive evidence to prove Kid Cudi’s claims.

Male exotic dancer Sharay Hayes, also known as The Punisher, testified to having sex with Cassie at the request of Diddy and said that the encounters were always consensual. He told the jury that he didn’t get any cues of any discomfort from Cassie, and that if he had, he would have stopped. Diddy’s defense lawyer doubled down, asking if Hayes ever did anything to Cassie that she didn’t want. Hayes replied no. He claimed it was consensual.

Cassie Ventura’s mother Regina Ventura and former best friend Kerry Morgan were both called to the stand by the prosecution to testify against Diddy. The jury has heard from at least one expert witness so far, Dr. Dawn Hughes. The clinical psychologist took the stand to provide “blind testimony” about why a person would stay in an abusive relationship.
