Outrage on social media over liberal figures politicizing Texas flood disaster

Some liberals may end up regretting their social media posts politicizing the disastrous flooding in Texas after getting major backlash this week.

Multiple liberal figures on social media, along with major Democratic Party figures, took serious heat this week after blaming the damage and deaths caused by flooding in Texas this week on President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Even some other prominent liberals condemned the political attacks over the flooding.

“It takes a serious lack of humanity to see children die in a natural disaster and respond with something along the lines of ‘that’s what they voted for,’” former Bernie Sanders campaign co-chair Nina Turner said in response to one viral post.

TEXAS FLOOD SURVIVORS SHARE HARROWING STORIES, SEARCH CONTINUES FOR THOSE STILL MISSING

At least 91 people, including children and counselors at a girls’ camp, were killed in central Texas in flash flooding that began early on the morning of the Fourth of July, the White House said on Monday. The toll is expected to rise with dozens more missing as of Monday.

The National Weather Service sent several flash flood warnings early Friday morning, followed by several flash flood emergency notices.

Some critics of Trump wasted little time, saying his cuts to the federal government – namely staffing cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) – hampered the state’s natural disaster response preparedness and led to destruction and loss of life.

In a post from over the weekend, MeidasTouch.com editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski wrote, “The people in Texas voted for government services controlled by Donald Trump and Greg Abbott. That is exactly what they [are] getting.” The commentator appeared to have deleted the post shortly after sharing it.

Turner called Filipkowski’s post “shameful.”

Texas pediatrician Christina Propst shared a social media post wishing that “MAGA” people affected by the flooding should reap the effects of what they voted for, while expressing hope that “non-MAGA voters and pets be safe and dry.”

“Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA. They deny climate change. May they get what they voted for,” she said, adding, “Bless their hearts.”

Click2Houston reported Sunday that Propst’s employer, Blue Fish Pediatrics, condemned the statement and announced she was no longer employed.

DEADLY TEXAS FLOOD EXPOSES ‘NEGLECTED’ WEATHER ALERT SYSTEM TRUMP AIMS TO MODERNIZE

“The individual is no longer employed by Blue Fish Pediatrics. As we previously mentioned in our original statement, we strongly condemn the comments that were made in that post. That post does not reflect the values, standards, or mission of Blue Fish Pediatrics. We do not support or condone any statement that politicizes tragedy, diminishes human dignity, or fails to clearly uphold compassion for every child and family. We continue to extend our full support to the families and the surrounding communities who are grieving, recovering, and searching for hope,” the post read.

The official account for “The Democrats” shared a screenshot of a headline Sunday, which stated, “As Floods Hit, Key Roles Were Vacant at Weather Service Offices in Texas.” The account commented, “Reminder: The staffing shortages at the National Weather Service’s San Angelo and San Antonio offices doubled under the Trump administration. These jobs are meant to coordinate disaster response and save lives.”

Other social media users hammered the post. Meteorologist Chris Martz replied with an Associated Press report citing National Weather Service office meteorologist Jason Runyen’s assessment that his office had extra staffers at the time of the flooding.

“The National Weather Service office in New Braunfels, which delivers forecasts for Austin, San Antonio and the surrounding areas, had extra staff on duty during the storms, Runyen said. Where the office would typically have two forecasters on duty during clear weather, they had up to five on staff,” the AP stated.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., pointed fingers at the GOP as well, posting on Saturday, “Accurate weather forecasting helps avoid fatal disasters. There are consequences to Trump’s brainless attacks on public workers, like meteorologists.”

Conservative commentator Carmine Sabia trashed Murphy, stating, “As they are searching for the bodies of babies. You should be ashamed but you have no shame.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is calling for an investigation into whether NWS cuts played a role in the response to the catastrophic flooding.

CBS Austin meteorologist Avery Tomasco insisted that the National Weather Service was functional at the time of the flooding. “All I’ll say is this. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Kerr County more than 12 hours ahead of the catastrophic flood. A flash flood warning was issued for Hunt & Ingram 3 HOURS before the Guadalupe started to climb. They did their job and they did it well,” he wrote on X on Friday.

In another X post, Nina Turner provided some fact-checking of her own regarding Trump’s budget cuts, stating, “The GOP’s budget cuts to NOAA are set to take effect at the start of fiscal year 2026, which begins on October 1, 2025. Anyone making the deaths of the children in Texas about partisan politics is morally bankrupt. Please reflect.”

“Multiple things can be true at the same time: 1. the funding cuts are bad. 2. the tragedy in Texas was a tragedy. Not being able to hold those two beliefs and jumping to ‘they got what they voted for’ will absolutely not move us towards any resolution.”

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson ripped liberals blaming Trump’s cuts.

“It’s shameful and disgusting that in the wake of tragedy, the left’s first instinct is to lie and politicize a disaster to target their political opponents,” she told Fox News Digital. “False claims about the NWS have been repeatedly debunked by meteorologists, experts, and other public reporting. The NWS did their job, even issuing a flood watch more than 12 hours in advance. The Trump Administration is grateful to the first responders who sprang into action to save hundreds lives during this catastrophe, and will continue to help the great state of Texas in their recovery efforts.”

At Monday’s press briefing, press secretary Karoline Leavitt added that any media outlets or Democrats blaming Trump for the flooding should feel ashamed of themselves.

Despite his socialist proposals, New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has several millionaires backing his candidacy amid his calls to tax the wealthy to fund expansive social programs.

James Hueston, a 27-year-old venture capitalist, is part of a group called the Mamdani Millionaires in a Wall Street Journal piece published Monday.

“In my eyes, I should absolutely be paying my fair share for the people that need it,” Hueston told the newspaper. “I don’t think that he’s increasing taxation for the sake of it. I think that he’s doing it to fund very explicitly good policies.”

SOCIALIST’S NYC MAYORAL WIN SPARKS FIERCE DEBATE OVER FEASIBILITY OF RADICAL POLICY AGENDA

Voting data showed that about a third of the city’s wealthiest residents supported Mamdani in the primary, the New York Post reported. Many donors, some from Wall Street and large law firms, have remained anonymous.

Other high-earning supporters of Mamdani include Ahmed Haque, the founder and CEO of consulting firm Didactic Labs.

“For immigrants coming to this country, these small businesses represent the single path for upward mobility that they have,” he said.

Bradley Tusk, a venture capitalist who ran Michael Bloomberg’s third campaign for mayor of New York City, wrote on LinkedIn that New Yorkers should “do what we can to help him succeed.”

SOCIALIST MAYORAL CANDIDATE ZOHRAN MAMDANI UNDER FIRE FOR PLAN TO TAX ‘RICHER AND WHITER NEIGHBORHOODS’

In an Instagram post, Keith McNally, owner of Balthazar, a French restaurant, called Mamdani “fantastic.”

“More so, when my affluent, paranoid friends tell me Mamdani’s dangerous,” he wrote.

Kathy Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York City, a major business group, told The Journal that she met with Mandani in September, long before his candidacy was taken seriously.

“I’m not in favor of government taking over your business,” Wylde recalled him telling her.

She added that “he has already acknowledged that the housing crisis is only going to be addressed if there’s an increase in private supply. So he’s not just talking about social or socialized housing solutions.”

Grigor Dimitrov was one set away from upsetting Wimbledon’s No. 1-seeded men’s singles player, Jannik Sinner, on Monday.

But an untimely injury changed all of that.

Dimitrov had to retire from the match in the Round of 16 due to an apparent pectoral injury despite owning a 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 lead over Sinner.

In turn, Sinner is heading to the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

During a serve, Dimitrov immediately fell on the grass court in pain, grabbing at his right pec. Trainers sprinted out to help him, and it appeared all Dimitrov could do was laugh in the moment, knowing his potential upset was chalked.

BEN SHELTON TAKES 1 MINUTE TO DEFEAT OPPONENT AT WIMBLEDON AFTER MATCH WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO DARKNESS

Still, Dimitrov’s status was up in the air as he left the court for a medical timeout. However, when he returned to the court, he shook Sinner’s hand to say that he couldn’t continue.

The serve was the set-tying point, as Dimitrov won the fourth game of the third set.

The Centre Court crowd gave Dimitrov a loud ovation despite the circumstances, while he packed his bag to leave the match and the tournament.

“I don’t take this as a win at all,” Sinner said after the match, showing respect to Dimitrov in the process.

“I don’t know what to say. He is an incredible player. I think we all saw this today. He’s been so unlucky in the past couple of years.”

Dimitrov was playing well at Wimbledon, where he was hoping to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2014 — his deepest run in the tournament to date.

But injury has been an issue for Dimitrov, especially in Grand Slams. This is the fifth straight tournament he has been forced to retire, most recently occurring in the French Open due to a thigh ailment in the first round.

In 2024, he left the fourth round with an abductor tear during his match against Daniil Medvedev.

Despite not accepting it as a win, Sinner will have to prepare for his quarterfinals matchup with American phenom Ben Shelton, the No. 10 seed of the tournament. Shelton defeated Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5 on Monday.

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe’s struggles led to some trash talk by a New York Mets fan on Sunday afternoon in Queens.

Volpe’s father, Michael, was in earshot, and he made sure the heckler was addressed.

Before the signing of “God Bless America” at Citi Field during the Yankees’ 6-4 win over the Mets on Sunday, Michael was caught on video exploding on a Mets fan in between innings.

The video showed what appeared to be his daughter Olivia trying to hold him back, but whatever the Mets fan said sent him over the edge. The expletive-laden retort from Michael showed he wasn’t happy at all with it.

Michael was repeating, “Let’s go!” to the Mets fan multiple times in the TikTok video that went viral

AARON JUDGE LEFT BLOODIED AFTER ANTHONY VOLPE’S ERRANT TOSS IN YANKEE’S SIXTH STRAIGHT LOSS

“Bad mouthing my son. F— you. F— you,” he shouted back at the Mets fan.”

The Mets fan was seen standing up and pointing in Michael’s direction while others stood for the patriotic song.

It’s been a rough go for Volpe of late on the field, as he went 1-of-11 in the Yankees-Mets series. His lone hit was a home run on Saturday, when the Mets won 12-6 to take the series at home after winning the first game on Friday night.

The season has been a rollercoaster for Volpe, who is slashing .219/.296/.398 with 10 homers and 48 RBI over 89 games thus far. He is also third among MLB shortstops in errors this year with 11.

And one stat Yankees fans have been pointing at recently is Volpe leading MLB in runners left on base while at bat (176), meaning he hasn’t been able to get hits to bring players around the bases to score.

More stats show why that is the case this year, as Volpe is hitting just 1.96 (20-for-102) with runners in scoring position this season. He has had ample opportunities given his usual, middle-of-the-pack position in the Yankees’ lineup each night.

There is still an entire second half of the MLB season for Volpe to turn things around, but while Yankees fans have been vocal about their displeasure with his play of late, an opposing fan apparently took things too far to the point where his father did not want to hear it.

Veteran cyclist Julie Cutts Peterson told Fox News’ “America Reports” about why she refused to take the podium for the medal ceremony after losing to a trans competitor.

“At the finish line I was upset. I said ‘I did not want to race against a man,’” Peterson said, recalling her frustration at the event and the way the audience gasped at her comment. “In my mind I was like, ‘I can say that, I have freedom of speech.’ I was raised believing in the Bible where men are created by God and God created women from men, I was born and raised in America, where I learned my pronouns, and I took science classes that taught me about XX and XY and I believe that most Americans and people worldwide would support men not being in women’s categories.”

Peterson came in second place to transgender opponent, Kate “KJ” Phillips – born a biological male – who took the gold medal last Tuesday at the Lyons Masters National Championships in Wisconsin. She is one of multiple veteran female cyclists who are speaking out against USA Cycling after they claim the organization failed to disclose the participation of a transgender athlete in a recent race.

Peterson recalled the final sprint of the race where Debbie Milne was the only competitor ahead of her until “out of nowhere” came Phillips.

“I knew at that sprint that that was a man’s sprint,” she said, noting her extensive experience riding among both men and women.

CALIFORNIA TRACK MEET TURNS TO POLITICAL RALLY OVER TRANS ATHLETES AS SCHOOLS SPEAK OUT VS. STATE

Peterson went on to argue transgender ideology is not scientifically sound, declaring, “There is no amount of makeup, money, or marketing that can change that Y-chromosome, and that’s why we are taking a stand.”

The cyclist claimed further that the transgender competitor’s name was not even included on the registration list, “which means that we were not given the information that he would be racing in our category before the race started.”

“Apparently we’re hearing that from other athletes as well,” “America Reports” co-anchor Sandra Smith said, sharing a clip of Milne claiming that Phillips’ registration was completely hidden from competitors.

“Catherine Phillips, KJ’s name, was not on that list. And I checked it up all the way to the point of closure when we couldn’t register online anymore,” Milne said last Thursday on “Fox & Friends.” According to Milne, neither she nor Peterson believe the omission of Phillips’ name was accidental, referring to the incident as “deception.” She said Peterson later got confirmation Phillips had been registered since mid-June, long before the online list closed. The cyclist added that, had she known, she might have reconsidered spending hundreds of dollars and traveling over 400 miles to compete.

WOMEN’S SWIMMERS SPEAK OUT AFTER UNKNOWINGLY FACING TRANS COMPETITOR, FILING COMPLAINT: ‘I FEEL BETRAYED’

Smith also noted that Fox News Digital had reached out to USA Cycling, who responded by providing their transgender eligibility policy.

Smith relayed that as she understood it, the policy as it stands is, “Quite simply it’s just providing a written and signed declaration to the cycling technical director that their gender identity is female.”

Peterson agreed, claiming she has a photo of how the registration appeared June 19th at 4:48 P.M., arguing that USA Cycling and Bike Reg had plenty of time to show the transgender competitor’s name there but decided not to, an increasingly growing pattern.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is fully embracing the challenges of a new season following a devastating Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will have a new-look offense with hopes that Travis Kelce could tap into his younger self and turn back the clock to help the team back to the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs star opened up about his offseason with Kay Adams on Monday and talked about picking the brain of NFL legend Tom Brady. He said Brady offered him some sage advice.

“He always talks about being yourself,” Mahomes said on the “Up & Adams Show.” “He thinks that, and which I truly believe it too, guys can spot when you are not authentic and not putting in the work. That is something he did every single day. That is why guys respected him so much.

“That’s all I am going to do for the rest of my career and I felt like I have done so far. I am always myself no matter if you like me or don’t like me, you know. I am giving everything I can to win the football games.”

STEELERS LEGEND TERRY BRADSHAW CRITICIZES TEAM’S HANDLING OF KENNY PICKETT

Mahomes had 3,928 passing yards and 26 touchdown passes as Kansas City went 15-2 in 2024. But the pressure to make another run to the Super Bowl will be even higher.

For the Chiefs to have another successful season, Mahomes said the key was to have “fun again.”

“I think it is just us having fun again. I mean it has always been fun playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. That is what makes it special. I feel like last year, I don’t want to say it was pressure, but guys wanted to go out there and win every single week and not for the fun of the game just cause we were supposed to.

“Let’s go out there and have fun. The wins will come if we play the way we know we can play. We have the talent. We have the coaches. We work harder than anyone in the NFL, so let’s go out there and have fun and let the results handle themselves.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris had a profane message for anxious Democratic governors uneasy about publicly supporting Joe Biden during the 2024 presidential campaign following his disastrous debate against current President Donald Trump, a new book reveals.

“This is about saving our f–king democracy,” Harris reportedly told the governors at a July 3, 2024, gathering at the White House after numerous officials expressed reservations about supporting Biden over concerns about his cognitive state.

The comment is revealed in the upcoming book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, according to the New York Post.

Biden’s campaign was in freefall after the then-81-year-old president appeared tired and disoriented at the June 2024 presidential debate, his only debate against Trump.

‘THE KAMALA EXCUSE’: TENSIONS BETWEEN BIDEN AND HARRIS PLAGUED THEIR CAMPAIGNS, NEW BOOK REVEALS

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence, and I don’t think he knows what he said either,” Trump remarked at one point.

The June debate was held much earlier than presidential debates were traditionally held. According to the book, Biden’s aides persuaded him to hold the early debate, claiming doing so would allow him to act from a position of strength.

“By holding the first debate in the spring, YOU will be able to reach the widest audience possible, before we are deep in the summer months with the conventions, Olympics and family vacations taking precedence… In addition, the earlier YOU are able to debate the better, so that the American people can see YOU standing next to Trump and showing the strength of YOUR leadership, compared to Trump’s weakness and chaos,” a campaign memo, published by Politico, reportedly said.

BIDEN MADE HARRIS CAMPAIGN A ‘NIGHTMARE,’ DESTROYED HER CHANCES BY STAYING IN 2024 RACE TOO LONG, AIDES CHARGE

Biden’s performance created worries in the Democratic establishment that he would lose the election, and the 45th president began facing calls to drop out of the race. On July 10, 2024, the New York Times published an op-ed by the actor George Clooney urging Biden to exit the race. More Democratic politicians began to follow suit until Biden ultimately dropped out of the race on July 21, 2024. Harris succeeded him in the race, mounting a truncated roughly three-month-long campaign that ultimately failed.

Harris’ comments to the governors, made before Biden dropped out, were part of an effort to salvage his flailing candidacy. Following the meeting, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz appeared in the White House driveway to voice their support for the president. Numerous high-profile Democratic governors, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer – all of whom were touted as possible replacements for Biden – did not appear to vouch for Biden in public. Walz was later tapped to be Harris’ running mate when she stepped into the race.

Hochul claimed that all of the governors “pledged our support” for Biden, however, according to the book that claim wasn’t true and rankled the governors in attendance.

“Many of the governors were deeply skeptical that Biden could continue his campaign, and they were furious with Hochul for suggesting otherwise,” the book claimed.

A would-be kidnapper who took a 6-year-old off a busy Brooklyn street on Sunday night abandoned his alleged plan when the screaming child’s parents chased him, according to video footage of the incident.

The 36-year-old suspect was seen grabbing the boy with one arm just before 10 p.m. in Coney Island, an iconic entertainment and residential area, according to video footage taken by Freedom News TV.

He carried the screaming boy several feet before the child’s parents chased the suspect, who dropped the boy as he fled.

Nora Smiles, who calls herself “The Sneaker Lady” and whose shop is right next to the scene, told Freedom News TV that the boy was trailing his parents moments before the incident

“So a man came, and he was trying to cut him off. Then the little boy was trying to spin off of him,” she said. “The man just grabbed him up and started running with the little boy.”

Once the parents gave chase, the suspect dropped the child to the ground and ran into an intersection, the video shows.

“The parents just chased after the guy, and they caught him,” Smiles said. “It was just shocking. I’m a mother myself, so… we all ran over to see what happened.”

Smiles, who isn’t from the area, said locals were familiar with the suspect.

During the incident, police officers responded quickly and arrested the suspect, the New York Police Department told Fox News Digital.

The boy — whose family is from Queens — complained of minor pain and was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, according to the New York Post.

After it was reported that democratic socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani identified as “Asian” and “Black/African American” in his application to Columbia University, his SAT scores were revealed to be below the median score for students admitted into the school, according to a new report.

Independent journalist Christopher Rufo reported on Monday that, according to Mamdani’s full Columbia application, he scored 2140 out of 2400 on the SAT, which is below the median score of students admitted to the university in 2009.

A 2009 statement by the university said that students admitted into the Class of 2013 scored between 2110 and 2300 on the SAT, which would have placed Mamdani within the range but below the median.

Mamdani has said he identifies as “an American who was born in Africa,” and stated that checking multiple boxes was an effort to reflect his “complex background,” not to gain an advantage in the competitive admissions process.

DEM SOCIALIST’S NYC PRIMARY UPSET SIGNALS ‘GENERATIONAL’ SHIFT IN DEMOCRATIC PARTY, STRATEGISTS SAY

But at the time, Columbia, like many elite universities, used race-conscious admissions, a system the Supreme Court struck down in 2023.

Mamdani, who is the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, identified as “Black or African American” on his 2009 Columbia University application even though he now says he does not consider himself Black, The New York Times reported Thursday.

According to The Times, the internal data came from a leaked database of past Columbia applications which was part of a recent hack targeting the Ivy League school.

Mamdani, then a high school senior, also checked “Asian” and reportedly wrote in “Ugandan” in the space for additional background. He was ultimately not accepted to Columbia even though his father is a professor at the elite school.

“Even though these boxes are constraining,” Mamdani said, “I wanted my college application to reflect who I was.”

Mamdani told The Times that aside from those college forms, he doesn’t recall ever identifying as Black or African American.

RESURFACED VIDEO SHOWS NYC MAYORAL HOPEFUL SAYING HE WANTS TO REPLACE PRIVATE HOMES WITH COMMUNAL LIVING

His parents are both of Indian descent. His father, Columbia professor Mahmood Mamdani, has lived in East Africa for generations, but Mamdani said there had been no intermarriage in the family with native African groups.

Mamdani has leaned into his South Asian and Muslim identity on the campaign trail. During a June speech at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, he also stressed his African roots: “I was born in Kampala, Uganda… I was given my middle name, Kwame, by my father, who named me after the first Prime Minister of Ghana.”

Mamdani has proposed a list of policy changes to radically alter New York City more in line with his democratic socialist vision. He is running to unseat incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who was elected as a Democrat but is now running for re-election as an independent.

Former New York Democratic Mayor Andrew Cuomo is also running for mayor as an independent.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani and Columbia University for comment but did not receive a response prior to publication.

A desperate search was under way for a volunteer fire chief who disappeared when floodwaters swept away his emergency vehicle near Cow Creek in Texas Hill Country.

Past president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Gary Ludwig, said that Fire Chief Michael Phillips, of the Marble Falls Volunteer Fire Department, went missing early Saturday after being swept away by floodwaters while responding to a call near Cow Creek in Travis County, Texas, 50 miles from Austin, Texas.

“Chief Phillips was driving an emergency vehicle when he went missing late this morning,” Ludwig wrote in a post on Facebook.

“The vehicle has been found; however, the Chief has not been found with the vehicle, or anywhere else as of yet,” he continued.

Harrowing images of Phillips’ truck show it completely smashed and covered in flood debris. Ludwig said Phillips was still missing as of Sunday evening.

The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office said that it is “actively searching for Phillips,” with the search area being focused on three distinct areas off FM 1431 between Faith Academy and the Cow Creek area, with an additional search underway north of US Highway 281 near Hamilton Creek in Burnet.

“As of the time of this post, there are 5 known missing individuals, and we currently have recovered the remains of 3 individuals,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a post on their Facebook page Sunday evening.

During a news conference on Monday, Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd emphasized that teams remain dedicated to the ongoing search until all missing individuals are located, KVUE reported.

Over the weekend, officials said intense flooding swept through the region, complicating their search operations and that continued rainfall has further damaged infrastructure, making it challenging for crews to reach lower-lying areas.

Authorities noted that some methods of search—such as horseback or ATV patrols—are currently not viable due to hazardous conditions. Numerous low-water crossings and bridges remain in need of repair before emergency teams can fully access all affected locations.

According to his Facebook profile, Phillips has served as a volunteer fire chief since 1995.
