The Democratic, Republican and independent candidates for New York City mayor don’t often agree on much, but they appear to be in lock-step over the view that New Yorkers want someone different than former Governor Andrew Cuomo to run the Big Apple.

Zohran Mamdani and Curtis Sliwa, the Democratic and Republican nominees for New York City mayor, were quick to respond to Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that he will stay in the race as an independent after the former governor of New York lost his Democratic primary a few weeks ago. While blasting Cuomo, the pair also used the opportunity to slam incumbent independent mayoral candidate Eric Adams, who, on Monday, said Cuomo “had his opportunity” already, but New Yorkers no longer buy his message.

“Andrew is a double-digit loser in the primary. He lost by 12 points. He had his opportunity. He spent $25 million to get his message out. New York has heard it. He did not sell it,” Adams said at a Monday press conference. The comments followed a separate press release his campaign put out Sunday amid rumors Cuomo would be re-joining the race as an Independent, saying that Cuomo’s “political double-dealing” was the reason why New Yorkers have “lost trust” in him.

“I welcome everyone to this race, and I am as confident as I have been since three weeks ago on primary night when we faced Andrew Cuomo,” Democratic Party nominee Mamdani said at a Monday press conference following Cuomo’s announcement. “We did so because of the fact that while Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams trip over themselves to make deals in back rooms with billionaires, we are focused on fighting for working New Yorkers. I think he’s struggling to come to terms with what [Cuomo’s primary loss] meant.”

Mamdani added that while Cuomo may have envisioned himself as becoming the next mayor, the Democratic primary results showed NYC’s “hunger for a new kind of politics.” 

“I understand that it is difficult for the former governor to come to terms with [his loss] because it is a repudiation of the politics that he has practiced that he has known for so many years, and it is that same politics that we are turning the page on.”

Sliwa, the GOP’s nominee in the NYC mayoral race, also took the opportunity Monday following Cuomo’s announcement he would be re-entering the race to slam not just Cuomo, but Adams as well, telling Fox News Digital the two are working eagerly to “cling to relevance.”

“Andrew Cuomo lost his primary and hides in the Hamptons. Eric Adams skipped his and fled to Fort Lauderdale. Now they’re both running as independents to cling to relevance,” Sliwa said Monday. “I’m the only candidate with a major party nomination, a 50-year record of serving New Yorkers, and a real path to victory. While they play musical chairs on a sinking ship, I’m out campaigning in NYC, listening, leading, and fighting to win it for the people. Let the voters decide this November.”

In response to the criticism, a campaign representative for Cuomo zeroed in on Adams’ comments.

“This is a primary that the mayor didn’t participate in because he knew he’d lose,” Rich Azzopardi told Fox News Digital. “The governor got 36,000 more votes three weeks ago than the mayor got four years ago, when he was at the height of his popularity and people actually wanted to give him a chance.”

Azzopardi also pointed to an email Cuomo sent to supporters Monday noting he “made mistakes in the primary,” such as being too comfortable with polling that showed he was the front-runner. The email also spoke to Mamdani, but did not directly address Sliwa.   

“I do not believe that New York City voters affirmatively voted for a socialist form of government that is hostile to business and economic growth, and I do believe that Zohran Mamdani poses a serious threat to the future of the city we love. I will give it my all to stop him,” the email from Cuomo stated.

“I also believe that all of us who love New York City must be united in running the strongest possible candidate against Zohran Mamdani in the November general election for mayor.  Our common goal must be to run the strongest candidate against Mr. Mamdani. That is why I have accepted the proposal put forth by former Governor David Paterson and candidate Jim Walden that, in mid-September, we will determine which candidate is strongest against Mamdani and all other candidates will stand down, rather than act as spoilers and guarantee Mamdani’s election.”

On Monday, incumbent mayor Adams slammed the proposal mentioned by Cuomo in his email to supporters, which seeks to get the rest of the campaign field to pledge to consolidate around the strongest non-Mamdani candidate.

“This proposal that was put out. It was Andrew’s proposal. He uses people to put things out that he really would like to come later and say, ‘OK, I endorse what an independent person is doing,'” Adams said Monday.

Some Democratic strategists are so desperate for the party to start performing better, that they’re hoping for the economy to tank. 

A report from The Hill on Tuesday quoted several Democratic strategists reflecting on what they see as the dismal state of the Democratic Party. One said the party should be “praying” for a depression as a lifeline for their declining popularity following President Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory. 

“This is a nightmare scenario for the Dems right now,” an anonymous strategist told the outlet. “We better pray long and hard that the country is going to be in a f‑‑‑— depression, because I don’t know how else we find ourselves out of this mess.”

The Hill report prefaced that sobering impression of the Democratic Party by noting its current low approval numbers.

“Not only do polls show the Democrats’ approval ratings at historic lows, but they’re still scrambling to identify a national leader almost half a year after Trump’s return to the White House — dynamics that are raising alarm bells in certain corners of the party,” the outlet stated.

The Hill also cited one recent poll conducted by Democratic super PAC Unite the Country between May and June. The survey found that the Democratic Party has lost ground since losing to Trump in November. Many of those polled said they found the Democratic Party “out of touch,” “weak,” and “woke.”

Strategist and senior adviser to Unite the Country, Rodell Mollineau, told The Hill that “it’s going to be hard” for the party to move forward.

“It’s hard to message when you’re in the wilderness, which is what we are right now,” he said. “When voters don’t think that you care about their issues, and they don’t think that you’re going to fight for them, that becomes a problem.” 

Brad Bannon, another strategist, told The Hill, “Sadly, Democrats are still stuck in the same mud that they were in six months ago. We are still as unpopular as we were when Trump was inaugurated in January.”

He did, however, express hope that the passage of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” would give his party an opening to mount a counterattack against their Republican opponents.

“Because of MAGA missteps, Democrats now finally have tools to use to build a new foundation,” Bannon said. “The secret sauce for the opposition is to use the Medicaid cuts, immigration deportations and high tariff taxes to blister Trump for his failure to keep his campaign promise to bring down high prices on the first day of the second administration.”

Other prominent voices in the party have grown exasperated with Democratic leaders in the months since Trump’s election. 

Billionaire business mogul Mark Cuban slammed Democrats for their post-election strategy on the “Pod Save America” podcast Sunday.

“It’s just ‘Trump sucks.’ That’s the underlying thought of everything the Democrats do. ‘Trump sucks.’ Trump says the sky is blue. ‘Trump sucks.’ That’s not the way to win! It’s just not! Because it’s not about Trump — it’s about the people of the United States of America — and what’s good for them! And how do you get them to a place where they’re in a better position, and it’s less stressful for them.”

Former Democratic mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, ripped the state of his party in a recent CNN interview, telling host Dana Bash, “Just to give you a sense of how bad we are – the Democratic Party is less popular than Elon Musk right now. That should be like a wake-up call – how bad.”

The White House and the Democratic Party did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.

President Donald Trump joined Chelsea players on stage as they celebrated the FIFA Club World Cup championship following a 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

Trump was with the players as he handed out awards and medals on the field at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. But at least one Chelsea star was left puzzled over the president’s appearance during the celebration.

“I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused,” Chelsea’s Cole Palmer said after the match.

Palmer scored two goals and assisted on another in the win. He received the Golden Ball as the top player of the tournament.

Palmer was pleased with his performance, as Paris Saint-Germain appeared to be the favorites going into the final.

“It’s a great feeling. Even better because obviously everyone doubted us before the game,” he said. “The gaffer put a great gameplan out, and obviously, he knew where the space was going to be.”

Trump was spotted in a suite with his wife, first lady Melania Trump, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his wife Leena Al Ashqar. The president and Infantino have tightened their relationship in recent months as the U.S. prepares for the FIFA World Cup next year.

Trump and the FIFA executive have strengthened their relationship since he took office. He established the White House Task Force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in North America. He named Andrew Giuliani the executive director of the task force.

Expected to be one of the largest international sporting events, the World Cup’s host cities are anticipating nearly half a million visitors with a potential economic impact of up to $480 million that will benefit the tourism, hospitality and retail industries.

The international tournament, spanning North America, will begin in June 2026 and is the first World Cup in more than two decades to take place in multiple countries. The majority of games will take place in the U.S. in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia and East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Documents subpoenaed by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs show major failures among the six U.S. Secret Service (USSS) agents who were suspended without pay in response to an assassination attempt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.

While the USSS had previously told Fox News that the agents were disciplined in February, the paperwork shows that five of the agents were not disciplined until April, which is when Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., subpoenaed the records.

USSS interviews show that the main site agent was unprepared and undertrained, and fellow agents said she had no idea what she was doing in Butler.

The campaign rally marked the first time the agent had secured an outdoor rally, and agents on the ground claimed she lacked basic knowledge, according to the report.

The interviews also unveiled that several agents admitted the existence of major security concerns at the Butler rally, but none of them elevated the concerns or helped produce a plan to properly cover the roof that provided 20-year-old Thomas Crooks a clear shot of Trump.

The documents show that some agents in charge never even conducted walk-throughs of the site. For example, the lead advance agent, documents show, never did a final security walk through of the rally site because she was in the hospital for heat exhaustion, the special agent in charge said when questioned.

But the documents also provide a deeper dive into the six agents who were disciplined because of failures in the security detail.

The lead advance agent had 21 years with the USSS, with six of those years spent in the vice-presidential protective division.

Despite April documents showing the agent was suspended without pay for 21 days, the agent ended up getting a 14-day suspension. According to the Secret Service, the agent was the most senior and experienced agent on the advance team, yet she failed to secure the rally site.

The documents show the lead agent was aware of line-of-sight concerns, but she failed to address the issue or produce a plan to secure the building.

During her interview, the lead agent said she did not know three local snipers were inside the AGR building instead of on the rooftop where Crooks was perched when he shot Trump.

The counter sniper team lead had 10 years of experience with the USSS, with two years in the uniformed divisions and eight with the counter sniper program.

The counter sniper lead was suspended for 52 days without pay in April, but only had to serve 35 days. He is currently on official restricted duty status.

The agent is accused of not walking the entire Butler rally site and instead using “Google and stuff” to get a look at the grounds. He also failed to talk or collaborate with local sniper teams and never picked up radios offered by local law enforcement to communicate with other teams.

The Secret Service said with the lead sniper’s level of experience, he should have known how to successfully secure the grounds. The sniper also said during interviews that he received text messages about Crooks being suspicious, but failed to alert the lead site agent and security room.

One of the site agents who was disciplined had five years of experience with the USSS and was originally notified in April that she would be suspended for three days. But the Secret Service changed the length of discipline to 42 days without pay, documents show.

The Secret Service said the agent failed to communicate that there was an active threat on the day of the rally, to the team on the ground. The Secret Service also said the agent blamed others for the security failures, but she was the one who was ultimately responsible for all security.

After the assassination attempt, the agent spoke with a reporter and shared information about the behind the scenes of the rally, the documents show.

The senior special agent site counterpart had 20 years of experience, including experience dealing with presidential details. According to the documents, the counterpart was disciplined in April for 14 days without pay, though she argued she should not be punished. Instead, the agent blamed the site agent.

The senior special agent site counterpart was supposed to be responsible for securing the site and identifying threats, the documents show.

During interviews, the counterpart told the USSS that the site agent she was working with did not know “basic things,” adding that it was not her job to “coach” the site agent. 

The Secret Service also said local police emailed the senior counterpart their plans to secure the area, but she never opened or read the plans.

The special agent in charge from the Pittsburgh field office had 24 years of experience with the USSS, and just days after the rally was placed on telework status. In November, the agent was reassigned to work with the cybertraining program, and in January he was told he would be suspended for 14 days without pay.

According to the documents, the agent said under questioning that he did not know there was a threat against Trump before the rally. The agent told the Secret Service that if he had known about the threat, he would have recommended moving the rally inside or would have asked for more resources. 

The agent also told the Secret Service that the team assigned to Trump’s protective detail knew about the threats and were the ones who should have changed the plans.

The sixth agent who was disciplined was the assistant to the special agent in charge from the Pittsburgh field office.

The assistant had 24 years of experience with the USSS and admitted he did not prepare for the Butler rally. Documents show that without preparation, the assistant had little to no understanding of the security plan for Butler.

Additionally, the assistant never met with the lead agent and never did a site walk though, nor did the agent participate in a site briefing or look at a diagram of the site.

As a result, the assistant was suspended for 10 days without pay in April.

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told CNN on Monday just how unpopular the Democratic Party has become.

In an interview with anchor Dana Bash, Emanuel scolded his party, stating that it has “disappointed” its voters and been lost ever since President Donald Trump’s election victory last year. 

“Just to give you a sense of how bad we are – Democratic Party is less popular than Elon Musk right now,” he said. “That should be like a wake-up call – how bad.”

Emanuel, who was the U.S. ambassador to Japan under the Biden administration and is considering running for president in 2028, began by talking about how many Americans feel as though the American dream is unattainable.

“You want to restore confidence in democracy? Restore confidence in the American dream. The party for our ticket out of where we are, is making the American dream and the middle class our north star,” he said, pointing out where Democratic Party leaders need to focus their attention. 

He continued, “But we’re going to work like dogs in service of that dream and making it more accessible. It can’t be called the American dream if only 10% of the children and young people can get access to it. It can’t be. So, therefore, we got to make it the American dream, meaning everybody has a shot at it. That’s number one, and it’s – that’s a core.”

The former mayor followed up by noting how his party is missing the mark, comparing its popularity to that of Musk, who is despised by many liberals in America for his work as a senior advisor to the Trump administration. 

“Republican Party, stab you in the back,” he continued. “The Democratic Party, we disappoint you. And I think if you look at these numbers, the Democrats are harder on the Democratic Party than others, and the reason is because they got disappointed. And they have every right to be disappointed with the leadership.”

Emanuel mentioned that despite poor party leadership, the voter base is motivated to win the upcoming midterm and special elections. 

“The good news for Democrats is the voters are into winning. The leadership is in a different place,” he said, adding that the DNC, for example, is too focused on criticizing the party to embrace a winning mindset.

“I mean, look at the DNC. They’re – spent seven months post the election, firing squad in the circle, MIA – missing from action – when this is an existential, if you believe in it, which I do – Donald Trump is a real challenge to not only our politics, but our policy, where we are in the country, where we are in the economy, and there’s no Democratic Party” Emanuel added.

“But that doesn’t stop the Democratic voters from being energized,” he continued. “We gotta capture that energy, focus 2026 as a referendum on Republicans and the rubber stamp Congress.”

The Democratic National Committee did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Victims of a deceased financier known as the “Bernie Madoff of cows” are suing three banks, alleging they enabled the fraud that resulted in a $100 million Ponzi scheme. 

Some of those duped by Brian McClain, of Benton, Kentucky, filed a lawsuit against Community Financial Services Bank, Rabo AgriFinance and Mechanics Bank, alleging the institutions ignored red flags that left dozens of Kentucky investors with financial losses, the New York Post reported. 

The fraud was uncovered days after McClain killed himself at age 52 on April 18, 2023. He initially promised 30% returns to investors while orchestrating a “ghost cattle” scheme in which the livestock never actually existed, authorities said.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, CFSB said it was aware of claims to associate our institution with an alleged Ponzi scheme involving another financial entity and its client. We want to be clear that CFSB has no involvement in this matter.”

“CFSB strongly denies the allegations in question, and believes the claims against the bank to be entirely without merit,” the bank said in a statement to The Post. “The bank through counsel has filed a Motion to Dismiss in the suit brought by the bankruptcy trustee.”

“Any suggestion to the contrary is factually inaccurate and legally baseless. Our bank has acted in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, carrying out its responsibilities as a regulated financial institution,” the bank said. “CFSB has cooperated fully with all relevant authorities and investigations and will continue to do so. We are confident that the facts will speak for themselves and confirm that CFSB has conducted itself with integrity throughout.”

A spokesperson for Rabo AgriFinance told Fox News Digital that the courts will have the ultimate say.

“Rabo AgriFinance remains strongly committed to providing financial solutions to U.S. cattle producers, feedlots, and processors,” a statement from the bank reads. “As stated in prior court filings, the claims have no basis under the law, and many of the allegations are completely inaccurate. As the legal process unfolds Rabo AgriFinance will refrain from commenting further.”

McClain’s scheme collapsed when Rabo AgriFinance, McClain’s primary lender, discovered a massive discrepancy in inventory, the newspaper reported. 

During an audit, only 10,000 cattle were found, far less than the 88,000 McClain claimed to have.

While McClain claimed to have 88,000 head of cattle, only about 10,000 were found during an audit, exposing the bulk of the herd as “ghost cattle.”

After McClain’s death last year, representatives from Rabo AgriFinance seized the remaining cattle from McClain’s operation and sold them through Blue Grass Stockyards. 

Three of McClain’s companies — McClain Farms in Benton, Kentucky; 7M Cattle Feeders in Hereford, Texas; and McClain Feed Yard in Friona, Texas — filed for bankruptcy in 2023.

The unpaid livestock sellers could be protected under the Packers and Stockyards Act of 1921, which requires that all livestock purchased by a dealer in cash sales, along with any receivables or proceeds from those livestock, be held in trust for the benefit of unpaid sellers, according to the Department of Agriculture. 

McClain’s moniker is named after Bernie Madoff, the former Nasdaq chairman who masterminded the largest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history by defrauding thousands of investors.

Madoff died in 2021 at the age of 81 while serving a 150-year sentence at the federal medical care center in a North Carolina federal prison.

The Department of Justice on Monday asked the Supreme Court to deny Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghilaine Maxwell’s appeal of her sex-trafficking conviction, a move that comes as the department has recently come under fire for its handling of Epstein’s case files.

Maxwell, 63, was convicted by a jury in New York in 2021 of five counts involving sex trafficking of a minor and conspiracy. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Maxwell appealed her conviction, saying it should be tossed out for several reasons, including that a plea deal Epstein reached with the federal government in 2007 immunized her and that statutes of limitations had run out.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit denied her appeal, but Maxwell argued that circuit courts have issued disparate orders about what kind of immunity is granted through non-prosecutorial agreements, such as the one Epstein received in 2007, and that the Supreme Court should weigh in.

Maxwell is serving out her prison sentence in Tallahassee, Florida. It is set to end in 2037.

The DOJ’s response to the high court comes after the department recently ignited fury among a faction of President Donald Trump’s supporters by announcing it had no new information to release related to Epstein’s case. Epstein was charged in 2019 with sex trafficking underage women, but he died before he could stand trial. Authorities ruled his death was caused by suicide.

Some Trump DOJ officials had advanced theories that the government was hiding information related to Epstein’s case, but they have since walked back those claims.

Congress could call on Maxwell to testify before lawmakers. Citing anonymous sources, the Daily Mail reported Monday that Maxwell is interested in doing that. Maxwell’s attorney did not respond to a Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the report.

Her attorney did, however, take a jab at the Trump DOJ over its position on Maxwell’s appeal.

“I’d be surprised if President Trump knew his lawyers were asking the Supreme Court to let the government break a deal,” attorney David Oscar Markus said. “He’s the ultimate dealmaker — and I’m sure he’d agree that when the United States gives its word, it should keep it. With all the talk about who’s being prosecuted and who isn’t, it’s especially unfair that Ghislaine Maxwell remains in prison based on a promise the government made and broke.”

John Goodman looked better than ever during an appearance at the “Smurfs” premiere Sunday.

Goodman flaunted his 200-pound weight loss as he walked the red carpet ahead of the July 18 movie release.

The actor voiced Papa Smurf for the animated comedy. He starred alongside Rihanna, James Corden, Octavia Spencer and Xolo Maridueña.

Goodman dropped 200 pounds through exercise and dieting. The “Roseanne” star chose boxing and daily walks as his form of movement.

“I dug it. Yeah. Nobody’s going to get hurt, but it’s just hitting the mitts and trying to learn,” he told The Rolling Stone in 2023. “I never got good enough where I would trust myself to spar because once I get whacked in the face, I don’t know if I wouldn’t lose it.”

“But it’s usually just an hour, hour and a half of hitting the mitts, hitting the bags, learning footwork. It’s great.”

Goodman, now 73, changed his approach to nutrition in order to shed pounds.

“I just stopped eating all the time,” he told ABC News in 2016. “I’d have a handful of food, and it’d go to my mouth. I was just eating all the time. I was just eating alcoholically. In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack of Bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits.”

His choice to begin exercising again led to an increase in energy.

“I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore,” Goodman told the outlet. “And it gives me the energy to work, ‘cause work is very draining.”

Goodman, who once weighed almost 400 pounds, revealed how he found the motivation to become healthier.

“I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself,” he admitted. 

“You’re shaving in the mirror, and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”

Goodman’s prolific career began in the 1980s with his role in “Roseanne.” He went on to star in a number of voice roles, including “Monsters Inc.,” “Cars,” and “Bee Movie.” Other major roles included gigs in “The Flintstones,” “Argo,” “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “The Big Lebowski.”

Goodman’s most recent projects include “The Conners” and “The Righteous Gemstones.”

As the multi-state worker strike approaches the two-week mark, the garbage collection company involved in the unrest is being urged by state leaders across the country to finalize a contract and restore services.

Republic Services told Fox News Digital that they are “working to resume regular trash collection as quickly as possible.”

“A work stoppage does not benefit our employees or the communities we serve. We empathize with customers who have been impacted by the Teamsters’ decision to stop work,” a spokesperson for the company shared in a statement. 

The company added that its customers will be notified via text, phone and email with any updates.

PHILADELPHIA WORKERS AND CITY REACH A DEAL TO END STRIKE THAT HALTED RESIDENTIAL TRASH PICKUP

Despite the involvement of a federal mediator, recent negotiations between Republic Services and Teamsters, the union representing the garbage collectors, have ended without resolution.

Last week, Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien escalated tensions by threatening to disrupt waste collection operations across multiple states. The strike has disrupted trash collection in 14 Massachusetts communities served by Republic, primarily along the North Shore.

O’Brien declared “war” on Republic Services, warning that the union plans to “flood the streets and shut down garbage collection in state after state.”

“Republic Services has been threatening a war with American workers for years — and now, they’ve got one,” O’Brien said in a statement. “Republic abuses and underpays workers across the country. They burn massive profits and funnel money to undeserving, corrupt executives.”

O’Brien said the Teamsters “have had it with Republic.”

“We will flood the streets and shut down garbage collection in state after state. Workers are uniting nationwide, and we will get the wages and benefits we’ve earned, come hell or high water.”

Teamsters claimed that Republic Services had refused to settle fair contracts, despite months of negotiations in cities around the country.

“Republic Services doesn’t run without its hardworking Teamsters. This strike forced on workers by the multibillion-dollar corporation is resulting in trash pileups and collection disruptions for scores of people across the country,” the organization wrote in a post on X.

“But Teamsters at Republic will not back down until they’ve gotten the fair contracts they’ve rightfully earned.”

In the meantime, numerous Massachusetts towns and businesses are facing mounting piles of uncollected garbage. Republic claimed the union wasn’t negotiating in good faith, while the Teamsters accused the company of abandoning talks and refusing to continue over the weekend. 

“Unfortunately, the Teamsters did not take the negotiations seriously and refused to make any meaningful progress,” the company told Fox News Digital. 

“Today, we made a formal proposal that included a nearly 16% wage increase immediately and an approximate 43% pay increase over five years for our Greater Boston employees. Contrary to the many falsehoods the Teamsters are spreading, our offer outpaces competitors.”

Another round of discussions is set for Tuesday as workers are calling for better wages, improved benefits and enhanced job protections.

Nationally, over 2,000 Teamsters are either actively striking or observing picket lines. The Republic Services Teamsters began striking on July 3 on the East Coast.

TEAMSTERS BOSS PRAISES TRUMP FOREIGN FILM TARIFF, CONDEMNS HOLLYWOOD’S ‘UN-AMERICAN ADDICTION TO OUTSOURCING’

The company said it is facing union-related work stoppages at six locations, including two business units in Boston and four additional sites in Cumming, Georgia; Ottawa, Illinois; Manteca, California, and Lacey, Washington. The Teamsters union has also expanded picketing to several other locations, with many employees at those sites honoring the picket lines, the company said.

While the company claims that garbage pickup is continuing in all affected areas, many residents and businesses report delays and inconsistent service. Republic’s commercial clients, such as restaurants, are also grappling with waste collection issues.

Massachusetts Secretary of State Bill Galvin sent a formal letter Friday to Republic Services President Jon Vander Ark, criticizing the company for halting active negotiations and imposing hardship on communities. In the letter, obtained by Boston.com, Galvin called for more intense efforts to reach a deal and suggested that the situation might require greater government oversight of the waste management sector.

He emphasized that essential public services like trash collection shouldn’t hinge on the strategies of a private corporation, and questioned whether oversight of such services should remain in the hands of private firms.

Boston City Councilors Erin Murphy, John FitzGerald and Ed Flynn echoed these sentiments in a separate letter to Vander Ark. The trio, who spearheaded a City Council resolution supporting the Teamsters, said the union’s demands were fair and accused Republic of failing to meet fundamental labor standards. 

Republic countered that it had proposed a nearly 16% immediate pay raise and a total increase of around 43% over five years. The company accused the union of spreading misinformation and asserted its wage offers exceed those of competitors.

“Don’t believe the union’s false narrative – 45% of our Greater Boston drivers represented by the Teamsters earned more than $100,000 last year, based on W-2 data,” the company said. “If the Teamsters accepted the offer we made today, drivers would make approximately $140,000 per year, by the end of the contract.”

In addition, the company claimed that they “pay 100% of the health and welfare premiums for our Greater Boston employees” and ensured that they have a comprehensive health and welfare plan. 

The company said that the mediator requested both sides return to mediation on Tuesday, July 15, and both parties agreed. 

“We are confident that our most recent proposal meets all of our employees’ demands, and we expect the Teamsters to bargain in the best interest of our employees.”
